Our current mission will be in Mansoura, Egypt on October 20th thru October 26th, 2019. We will be focusing on complicated pediatric laparoscopic surgeries and working with the local team to do cleft lip/cleft palate surgeries.  We will also be visiting an orphanage and providing for the children through Operation Backpack.

The Area

"The trip will be rounded out with training and education for Surgeons, bedside rounds, intraoperative teaching and didactics, discussion and mentoring of the trainees ..."
"The University of Mansoura’s Faculty of Medicine is the third largest medical school in Egypt, containing a multiple hospital medical complex, including a stand-alone children’s hospital, and Mansouras University Childrens Hospital (MUCH). This trip we will participate in a week long medical mission with the Faculty of medicine at MUCH. Our time in Mansoura will include a combination of a teaching and service model. the partnership with the young faculty will include screening patients and operating on several complex pediatric laparoscopic cases and working with the local team on cleft lips and cleft palates. As with any other global service opportunity, the resource constrained environment allows us to test the limits of our competency in the surgical care of children. We must alter our treatments and techniques to the tools and resources available in the particular environment we are asked to serve in. The trip will be rounded out with training and education for Surgeons, bedside rounds, intraoperative teaching and didactics, discussion and mentoring of the trainees including desgin of masters’ projects and research designs. All activities will continue remotely with the relationships built during this week long mission, with plans to continue working remotely until our next opportunity for travel between the institutions.

Our Goal

"help as many children and adults in the area safely and with the highest quality care."
Our goal is to help as many children and adults in the area safely and with the highest quality care. Although we will undoubtedly face technical, medical, and cultural challenges our goal is also not compromise care given to them while paying close attention to and adjusting when necessary our techniques and operations. We hope to be able to help even more individuals and families than our previous trip to Mansoura, and we plan to leave them with more tools and knowledge to continue treatment."
